Innovation Manager

(12 Month - Maternity Contract)

Tasked with executing the Innovation Strategy for the fiscal year, the Innovation Manager works very collaboratively with the Innovation Project Lead and a cross-functional team to bring new and unique products to market with speed and efficiency. You will oversee all stages of the new product development process and will ensure that all projects are launched on time and within budget. You have experience deploying research initiatives to better understand the end consumer to ultimately develop the best product offering possible and you are a natural analytical thinker who loves diving into market research with a knack for sifting through data analytics for insights to help guide and support your decisions.

This position will report to the VP, Sales & Marketing, North America, with one direct report, and will have a strong working relationship with Operations, Sales and Marketing teams. The ideal candidate will be based in the Fraser Valley, and will have the ability to work both remotely as well at our Head Office in Chilliwack, BC.


  • Identify existing and potential opportunities for growth and revenue generation.
  • Oversee the research and development process for all new products in the Innovation pipeline (from concept through to in-market evaluation)
  • Work directly with the Innovation Project Lead, and collaboratively with a cross-functional team to execute new product launches according to the Innovation Strategy
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on the effectiveness of new product launches to ensure objectives have been fulfilled
  • Monitor internal and external trends and become acutely aware of gaps and vulnerabilities that may disrupt Petcurean's core business; communicate gaps and opportunities to senior management in a timely fashion
  • Conduct life cycle analysis on all new and existing products launched within the last three years to understand their effectiveness in the market
  • Determine the ROI on all new and existing products launched at Petcurean within the last three years
  • Conduct Market Research to understand the current and future pet parent(s) expectations, wants, needs and desires
  • Complete competitive and claim audits, as well as SWOT analysis as required
  • Represent the company at national and international business functions/organizational activities



  • Bachelor's Degree in Business or Marketing or a combination of education and experience
  • 3-5+ years of product development and/or marketing management experience an asset
  • 3-5+ years of ROI analysis and business case development an asset

  • Strong, confident and competent communicator (both oral and written), with an ability to energize teams and gain alignment
  • Ability to tailor communication styles depending on the audience
  • Ability to articulate concise messaging to ensure all stakeholders are aligned and heading in the right direction
  • Ability to navigate and synthesize multiple viewpoints while paving an efficient and innovative path forward

People Manager

  • Solid leadership experience and an understanding of the dynamics involved in team leadership
  • Proven ability to empower and inspire confidence in your team by setting direction, effectively delegating, displaying integrity, and moving towards team goals
  • Ability to foster an environment of communicating openly and regularly with team members about their performance, aspirations, and well-being. Genuine interest in the happiness and success of the team
  • Inspires the team to always be looking for how they can make a difference for the customers, their colleagues, and the company

Strategic Business Partner

  • An analytical thinker with the ability to identify opportunities through inquiry, research and market analysis
  • An ability to foster collaboration and draw out input and insights from colleagues, and partners
  • Highly organized with an ability to manage product development from "ideation" right through to "execution"
  • Change management expertise and skills
  • Several years of experience managing and implementing projects
  • Experience in executing strategic plans and projects. There are multiple products and projects launching at once, remaining calm and collected is paramount
  • Proven ability to analyze data and make recommendations
  • High level of computer literacy: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
  • Proven ability to manage and control budgets
  • Motivated self-starter, ability to juggle priorities and handle additional responsibilities as required and assigned
  • Highly analytical with excellent problem-solving abilities
  • Proven ability to operate under pressure and meet deadlines

  • Valid passport
  • Ability to work both from our Head Office in Chilliwack, BC as well from a home office (if desired)

Hours of Work

This is a full-time exempt position. The Employee shall perform his/her duties at such places and during such times as may be reasonably necessary. This position requires some international travel.
