As a key member of the operations team the Inventory & Demand Planning Manager is responsible for the management of all aspects of the Petcurean finished goods and packaging inventory. This role includes ordering from various suppliers and manufacturers to ensure adequate inventory availability for sale to a variety of customers worldwide. Evaluates current and future procurement business needs, trends, problems, opportunities and alternate service delivery options to improve service delivery capabilities.

The Inventory & Demand Planning Manager will supervise members of the Inventory & Demand Planning team.

The Inventory & Demand Planning Manager will have a strong working relationship with the Marketing and Sales team and will provide continuous support to the Project Management team as far as it involves Operations and Supply Chain Management.

This position will report to the VP of Operations.


  • Determine production requirements for manufacturing plants on a weekly basis (or monthly depending on the manufacturer) using a four-week rolling forecast. Ensures the optimal levels of stock through forecasting procedures and daily reviews of demand plan.
  • Monitor and maintain daily inventory (receive finished goods inventory, deduct package usage, update production order quantities, and deplete inventory as orders are shipped to distributors from the manufacturing plants) ensuring min & max inventory levels are maintained.
  • Process invoices to complete receipts.
  • Balance weekly empty packaging inventory provided by the manufacturing plants to determine losses and inventory requiring reordering.
  • Track current and pending bag changes to be considered for reorder of empty packaging.
  • Maintain Master Costing spreadsheet for Petcurean and Private Label products based on new pricing from the manufacturing plants.
  • Maintain Master Price List spreadsheets for Export and NA Sales and make these available in the SharePoint Sales folders when any pricing changes are required.
  • Maintain Master Data in the MRP system as well as on all active spreadsheets:
    • Create UPC Codes and maintain master list by brand.
    • Create new item numbers.
    • Maintain Master Specification Sheet
    • Obtain manufacturer/supplier reference numbers
    • Responsible for all aspects of the Lot Tracking Module in Accpac
  • Generate and maintain bi-weekly, monthly, and annual management reports.
  • Generate 15-month long term forecast by SKU with input from the Sales & Marketing Team and review in monthly review meetings with manufacturers in conjunction with the 4-week rolling forecast.
  • Maintain positive relationships with suppliers, distributors and service providers to ensure a high level of service is provided, contractor obligations are met, problems are investigated and resolved, and continuous improvement opportunities are fostered. 

People Management

  • Supervises and supports the demand and inventory planning team.
  • Ensures that all policies, procedures and practices are followed by the employee group, including consultants / contractors.
  • Establishes performance and productivity standards for all inventory and demand planning team members.
  • Communicate expectations on individual performance evaluations and performance management.
  • Continuously strives to improve operational efficiencies and workflows.
  • Is accountable for safe work practices, reflecting due diligence and an understanding of relevant statutory and regulatory requirements, and promoting safety and maintaining all aspects of policies and procedures.

  • Bachelor's degree or Post-Secondary qualification in Supply Chain Management or Manufacturing Operations, Materials Management, or a combination of schooling and experience;
  • Minimum of 7 years' experience in demand planning, inventory management, supply chain and materials management; or equivalent combination of experience and education;
  • Project Management experience required;
  • 1 + years of people management experience;
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of MRP, TQM, LEAN inventory, supply chain and production principles;
  • Above average mathematical aptitude with strong analytical decision-making abilities;
  • Aptitude for forecasting and assessment derived from analytical processes;
  • Expert level Microsoft Office (Excel specifically) required;
  • Multi-skilled professional who has excellent communication skills (both oral and written);
  • Sound judgment and ability to manage a multitude of priorities and deadlines with rigorous attention to detail;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to exhibit a senior level of professionalism;
  • An ability to coordinate several different tasks and work within a busy office environment;
  • Strong organization, time management and inventory management skills with the ability to work independently and as a member of a team;
  • Extremely organized with the ability to think on your feet and work under pressure;
  • Proactive approach; always seeking new and innovative strategies and ideas with a "can do" attitude;

 Additional Qualifications

  • Ability to lift and move 40 lb. bags of pet food and trade marketing materials
  • Ability to travel internationally

 Hours of Work 

This is a full-time exempt position with regular office hours from Monday to Friday.  However, the nature of this position is such that some additional time with notice may be required and there is a possibility of work on weekends or during the evenings. Some limited international travel may be required.
